I later found out that the same sensor is used in my full-size Chevy 6.2 liter diesel trucks and NAPA has it in stock! For that application, it is listed as a "glow plug inhibitor." I then gave them a number I found on my own, and then NAPA said it was "obsolete." I later ordered it from Partsamerica and had it the next day. NAPA first said they have no listing for it. It is a two-wire sensor, normally closed but open when hot - and runs the fast-idle system for the diesel. Just recently I needed a coolant temperature sensor for both my 81 diesel Chevette and my 85 diesel P'UP. I got the actual number off the bearing and had a new one the next day for $11.
I also needed a new bearing in the belt-tensioner. This goes with many vehicles, not just for an Isuzu. I have the Dayco and Gates catalogs - and many times their numbers do NOT match what NAPAs catalog suggests - i.e.
The Dayco belt is a 22415, Gates heavy-duty is a special "truck and bus" series belt - TR22410, etc. that "obsolete" only means that their one supplier no longer carries it - and it's likely many more do - elsewhere. And, to add insult to injury - if let's say NAPA's supplier for a particular lines of parts no longer provides it - NAPA will tell you it's obsolete. So, I DO NOT rely - ever - on what their parts catalog suggests - for anything - it is too often wrong. And, they will usually opt to sell a part that comes close - instead of an exact fit - if it's a faster selling item. have many problems in their parts catalogs. In fact, my problem was deciding which brand I wanted. But, I've got an 85 shortbed 4WD diesel Isuzu P'UP and I just replaced all the belts - and I had no problem getting them. Now, in regard - specifically to your 1985 MPG - I admit, I'm not sure what the MPG model is. Most major belt and hose companies will make you the part needed if it's not a normallly stocked item. I've got over a hundred cars, trucks, and tractors - dating back to 1918 and I've yet to fail finding a part somewhere. In regard to belts, I can't imagine any vehicle not having a belt available.
